A cup of Tea

People have a cup of tea any time in Gujarat. Some have it because tea gives energy to work, even some are addicted to it they need to have tea otherwise they may have headache. Friends give party of tea to share joy. Some people consider it as breakfast. People who work in offices they drink it for time pass at kitly (place where tea is sold in Ahemadabad). These are the few reasons first we usually think about tea.

But there is one more reason that we never think about it. Any guest comes to Gujarati house, he is always offered tea to welcome and show joy of receiving him. You can see and feel that Tea has taken place in our friend circle, in our life and in our culture.

Today increasing price rates of sugar, tea powder and milk in India have snatched off friend circle and our culture. Everybody has to think before drinking tea. The only possibility to drink tea is to have at home instead of at kitly or in public place because it is going to be costly. But by doing this I remember an excerpt someone said, “When you eat and drink, think that hungry people are poking their nose to the glass and watching you eating and drinking”. Watching them I feel I do not have any permanent solution for it. I feel one day Tea is going to disappear from our life and from our culture. But as Christian humanity, can’t we raise our hearts to do for permanent solution and save the disappearing a cup of tea culture? I would say let the cup of tea disappear from our friends, from our culture. Can’t we replace it by giving a cup of joy and love by caring our fellow brothers and sisters?

The Sacrament of Confession

This is to bring awareness of The sacrament Confession.

After Resurrection, Jesus appeared first time to the apostles. He was breathing on them and said: “Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained” (John 20:22-23). We all know that Jesus himself instituted and asked his disciples to go for the sacrament Confession. But years after, the question is that do we really practice it? The Church says we must have confession but we failed to do so. We Gujaratis feel shy to do it, some of us educated people say, why should I go to priest and do it? I myself can confess my sins to God. But everyone knows that arguments have no actions, means we only say it but even to God we do not confess. But let us know that priest is the intermediary between us and God and confession is necessary for every Christian to remove the garbage (sins) from oneself to become clean to go to God. Would like to note how Confession is in Bhumel.

Recently I have noticed Fr. Stany and Fr. Martin from Vadtal were on Saturday ministry in Bhumel. They visit Bhumel alternatively. They like to visit people but the very important activity they do is that they sit down for confession before mass as per the requirement and make others to understand that reconciling of man to God is the purpose of Confession. When men or women sin, they deprive themselves of God’s grace. And by doing so, they make it even easier to sin some more. The only way out of this downward cycle is to acknowledge our sins, to repent of them, and to ask God’s forgiveness. Then, in the Sacrament of Confession, grace can be restored to our souls, and we can once again resist sin.

Fr. Stany and Fr. Martin are trying to bring back the beauty and awareness of the sacrament Confession. At the end I will submit my understanding of the sacrament that only Christians have this beautiful sacrament. It was instituted by Christ for the forgiveness of our sins. Therefore, we should embrace it as a gift from a loving God. Let us not mislay it.

Grotto celebration in Rajnagar

Rajnagar is the village of Vadatal parish. Yesterday they celebrated one year of grotto of Mother Mary.

Rajnagar church was built in 1967 with the help and support of catechist Narotam Saheb(teacher), but there was no grotto of mother Mary for the people. Sureshbhai Parmar, one of the leaders took initiative to build it and he fulfilled the dream of people Last year. Yesterday, it was one year of compilation and they celebrated it by having grand mass and a community lunch with fathers and sisters of Vadatal. Fr.Stany and Fr.Martin celebrated mass yesterday and they both asked everyone to strengthen Faith in God. Narotam Shaeb (teacher) also gave his presence in the celebration and said that every one should unite and become one in God.

"Church",Of the people,By the people-1

Bhumel is a historical place between Nadiad and Anand. The first missionary Fr. Manuel Xavier Gomes arrived in Mogri village and then he traveled to Bhumel wherein he stayed and bought a house and from there he visited the villages near by. After sometimes he moved to Gamdi-Anand and established the mission near Railways.

The missionary left Bhumel physically years ago but his Divine presence and FAITH he left has now grown to 60 families around 250 Catholics.

Why I write is the reason that Bhumel is the place where the real Christianity practiced even today. You can view my other bloggs of Bhumel wherein the active practices are felt and seen. It is not only the activities they do and celebrate festivals but even the people are concerned about the spirituality, financial needs, and growth of women. To fulfill one of these concerns, the writer of the blog himself well thought-out for children committee in year 1994 and there the small children committee began their first ministry by conducting prayers in every house alternatively, and still they continue the same without fail. It was a prayer group of children and was bringing prayer awareness(Jagruti)to family (Parivar) by small Children(Bal) therefore was named Jagruti Bal Parivar and later on it was called and now known as JA.BA.PA.
The Ja.Ba.Pa now has grown in taking responsibilities of liturgy in mass, conducting Sunday school for bulding faith, arranging prayers for sick and on birthday ocasions and giving entertainment programs on festivals to unite every Catholic with the help of present President Shailesh S.Parmar.

There are other organizations like Punit Cross Mandal and Legion Of Mary which are also responsible of Faith for the village. Punit Cross Mandal is a group of young and elders which conducts prayers by singing songs of God with the help of classical music instruments. It is a wonderful prayer where people dance in it out of joy. Similarly Legion Of Mary is a group of men and women, they pray in every house especially for sick people by reading Bible and saying Rosary.
One of the villagers has taken initiative to short out financial and savings problem of Catholics by opening Sadbhavana Bachat Mandal. This helps people to manage their money transactions as some of them are farmers.

There is also a group called Sakhi Mandal. The group is organized by only women for the better panorama and growth of women. They are very active in every offices of church.

The above given photo is some of the members of JA.BA.PA and to your right you will find the present president of JA.BA.PA Shailesh S.Parmar

"Church",Of the people,By the people-2

These all groups are connected to Church and they do all kind of activities out of Faith and Love of Christ. This is the village that serves the real meaning of CHURCH; church of the people, by the people. But unfortunately, the prayerful people do not have a proper church to pray or celebrate Mass. They have to celebrate Mass in open ground…………..They are in need of building a Church.

The above photo shows the place where church offices are done.

The theme of the crib was Global Warming. Jesus does not take birth in dirty place where there is garbage, pollution, noise and smoke of vehicles and dirty water of factories. He takes birth in a jungle in the midst of trees and fresh air and clean water, with the wild animals, with the nature and among simple, innocent and humble Aadivasi.

Lay Sisters-Sr.Elisa

Would like to bring to notice about Gujarati lay sisters congregation and their social work and great efforts towards Gujarati Catholics.

I would love to share my experience of Lay sisters and their activities. There is a good activity done by the congregation called Lay sisters around villages of Anand and Nadiad. It is the congregation of catholic sisters; some of them are working as doctors and teachers. They go to work, earn money like we do and use it for needy, the remaining time they spend in social service and prayers as St. Paul the apostle did. Their dress code is just like us that makes people to feel at home and share the problems. The very nice activity they do is visiting sick people and praying for them. On 14/01/2010 a Gujarati Sister Elisa visited some sick people of my village along with two more sisters where they prayed to God for good health. They visit people and find out the poor students to help them financially and spiritually too so that Gujarati catholic students grow and be support for their family. They are trying to unite and make people prayerful Catholics.
Lets us support them and their good activity towards the catholic society by our prayers.
