John 6, 60-69

 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 

 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.” From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

A DECISIVE QUESTION

 The Gospel of John has preserved the memory of a severe crisis among the followers of Jesus. We have hardly any facts. We are only told that the disciples found his language hard. Probably, it seemed he’d gone too far in demanding fidelity to him. The time came when “many of his disciples turned back.” They no longer followed him.

 For the first time Jesus found his words did not have the desired effect. However, he does not retract them but insists all the more: “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” His words seem hard but transmit life, for they contain the Spirit of God.

 Jesus remains unperturbed. The failure does not affect him. Addressing the Twelve he asks them a crucial question: “You do not want to leave too, do you?” He does not want to hold them back by force. He leaves them free to decide. His disciples must not be servants but friends. If they want they may return home.

 Once more Peter answers on behalf of all. His answer is exemplary: sincere, humble, sensible, characteristic of a disciple who knows Jesus enough not to leave him. His attitude even today can help those who, when their faith wavers, propose to dispense with all faith.

 “Lord to whom shall we go?” It makes no sense to abandon Jesus unthinkingly without having found a better and more convincing alternative. If they do not follow Jesus they will remain without knowing whom to follow. They should not take a hasty decision. It is not good to be without light or a guide in life.

 Peter is pragmatic. Is it good to leave Jesus without having found a more convincing and attractive hope? Is it enough to replace him with lowered ideals in life without any goals or horizon? Is it better to live without questions, issues, or search of any kind?

 There is something Peter has not forgotten: “You have the words of eternal life.” He feels the words of Jesus are not empty or misleading. With him they have found another way of life. His message has opened them to eternal life. With what will they be able to replace the Gospel of Jesus? Where will they find better Good News from God?

 Finally, Peter recalls the fundamental experience. Living with Jesus they discovered that he comes from the Mystery of God. From far, at a distance, out of indifference or a lack of interest the mystery hidden in Jesus cannot be recognized. The Twelve have known him closely. So they can say: ”We believe and know.” They will continue to be with Jesus.

 ડોન  બોસ્કોના સલેશિયન સિસ્ટર્સ દ્વારા ચાલતી જગપ્રકાશ કન્યા છાત્રાલય પણસોરામાં આવેલ છે. તેની આજુ બાજુ રહેતા અન્ય લોકો દ્વારા મૃત્યુ પામેલ ઢોરનો ઢગલો કરવામાં આવે છે. આ મૃત ઢોર ઢાંખર ની ગંધના કારણે સંસ્થામાં રહેતા 100 (52 છાત્રાઓ સહીત) લોકો ત્રાહીમામ થઇ ગયા છે. અવાર નવાર કલેકટર તથા ગામના આગેવાનોને મળવા છતા પણ આ સમસ્યાનો નિકાલ આવ્યો નથી.  હોસ્ટેલમાં ઉભા રહેવું તે અસહ્ય બની ગયેલ છે. ગંભીર બીમારીઓથી રક્ષણ મળે તે હેતુસર પગલા સિસ્ટર્સ દ્વારા લેવામાં આવ્યા છે તેમ છતા ગંધથી રક્ષણ મેળવવું ગંભીર બનેલ છે. બાળકો, સાધ્વી બહેનો  થતા ત્યાના સ્ટાફનું  આરોગ્ય  જોખમમાં રહેલ છે. આ પ્રશ્નનું નિરાકરણ તંત્ર દ્વારા જલ્દી લાવવામાં આવે તેવી રાહ જોતા રહેલ અહીના સર્વે મદદ પોકારી રહ્યા છે.    

 સર્વેની જો મદદ મળે તો આ પ્રશ્નનું નિરાકરણ તુરંત આવી શકે તેવી શક્યતા રહેશે એવી લાગણી અહીના સિ. લવિટાએ  રજુ કરી હતી.

A Marian Congress for Anand deanery

 The parish pastoral council of Gamdi Anand parish and the Legend of Marry presidium of Anand arranged a Marian Congress for Anand deanery at Gamdi Anand. Around 550 people from different parishes  of deanery as well as people from other  parishes attended  this congress. There were five speakers namely Fr, Ambrose Dabhi, Fr, Richard  Lopes sj, Fr.Tony, Fr. Nilesh and Sr. Marry Dabhi LD gave wonderful speeches.

Fr. Ambrose spoke about the importance of Rosary in our lives. The devotion of Rosary keeps alive and sustains us .Devotion means a bridge between devotee and God. Devotion means life giving bread, my love relationship with God, My dialogue with God, my meeting with God, Devotion showers God’s grace in my life, it’s also life giving.

 The second speaker Fr, Richard Lopes spoke about the participation of Mother Marry in God’s plan of salvation This plan which God will complete when the time is right, is to bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on Earth, with Christ as it’s head.

 The son of Marry will realize the plan of God in the world and make Gods life flow. God chose Marry as Mother of His son because God so loved the world that He gave His only so that we may have life and life in abundance for which Mary’s YES was of prime importance. “I am the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word.

 Mary’s life was God centered; Jesus centered which means every part of her body and soul is Jesus. It is through Mary the saviour of all people and of all ages and of all nations was shown as life giving source and the light. At the wedding at Cana Jesus starts the proclamation of God’s kingdom and Mary who initiates this process by saying do as He tell you and Mary withdraws to background. Mary again appears only at the foot of the cross where Jesus offers his Mother in the hands of John his disciple and thus, Marry becomes the Mother of all human kind because of which Mary is the first one to participate in the assention of Jesus and becomes the queen of heaven and earth. Mary becomes one with Jesus and She wants us to be one with her son.

 The third speaker Sr, Mary Dabhi LD, elaborated the womanhood of Mary. As a woman and as a mother, She is the role model for all women through her ideals;

1. Love God and God alone.

2. Always obedient to God.

3. In all things have faith in God.

 The fourth and fifth speakers Fr. Tony and Fr. Nilesh had a power point presentation about the apparitions of Mother Mary at different places such as Lourdes, Fathima, Gudaluppe, Valanakanni and Valencia.

LET JESUS FEED US

TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (B) 19 August 2012

John 6, 51-58

 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.”

 According to the story of John, the Jews, unable to transcend physical and material reality, and shocked by the forceful language he uses, once more interrupt Jesus: “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus does not go back on his statement but gives his words a deeper meaning.
 

 The core of what he explained allows us to delve into the experience of the first Christian communities as they celebrated the Eucharist. According to Jesus, the disciples not only have to believe in him, but they need to feed and nourish their lives on his very person. The Eucharist is a central experience in the lives of the followers of Jesus.

 The words that follow only highlight its fundamental and indispensable nature: “My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.” If the disciples do not find nourishment in him, they will be able to do and say many things, but they should not forget his words: “You have no life in you.”

 To have life in us we need to be fed by Jesus, nourished by his life giving inspiration by internalizing his attitudes and values. This is the secret and the power of the Eucharist. Only those know it who are one with him in holy communion and are sustained by his passion for the Father and his love for his children.

 The language Jesus uses has great power to express his message. To whoever knows how to be fed by him, he makes this promise: Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me, and I in him. Those nourished by the Eucharist go through the experience that their relationship with Jesus is not something external. Jesus is not a model we imitate from the outside. He nurtures our life from within.

 This experience of “dwelling” in Jesus and allowing Jesus to “dwell” in us can radically change our faith. This mutual exchange, this intimate communion, difficult to express in words, constitutes the true relationship of the disciple with Jesus. This is what it means to be sustained by his life-giving power.

 The life which Jesus transmits to his disciples in the Eucharist is the one he himself receives from the Father, the inexhaustible source of the fullness of life, a life that is not extinguished by our biological death. That is why Jesus dares to makes this promise to his own: “ Whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

 Without a doubt, the most serious sign of the crisis of the Christian faith among us is the general neglect of the Sunday Eucharist. It is painful for whoever loves Jesus to observe how the Eucharist is losing its power to draw people. But it is even more painful to see how even as a Church we witness this fact without daring to react to it. Why?

India celebrated Independence Day on 15th August 2012. It was observed all over India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. St. Xavier's Vidhya Vihar, Limdapura also celebrated it by inviting Mr. Jayantibhai Parmar (Admin in Gujarat Sahitya Prakash) who is very good in Mathematics and gives his service to the hostel boys and girls in our schools around Anand. Sr. Ramila LD (Principal) welcomed him for the national flag hosting.  He addressed the students and asked them to remember the people who died for the freedom of Mother India and also asked them to be faithful to the country. He also thanked Sr. Khalak LD (School Manager), teachers and the school children and the staff. There was also a beautiful patriotic songs and cultural program arranged by the school.

Kapadvanj conducts a Marian quiz for the deanery

 On the 12th of August, the parish of Don Bosco Kapadvanj conducted a Marian quiz for the parishes of the deanery. Six parishes participated. The dynamic assistant parish priest of Kapadvanj prepared and sent out a set of questions to all the parishes by email and also hard copy to many of them.

The 12th was a very rainy day but nobody complained since the rains were sorely needed and it brought an end to two months of drought. Our Lady surely blessed this effort to propagate devotion to her with the much needed rains. Many teams arrived late so we were able to start only at 11.30 a.m.

 The aspirants participated in this programme by preparing the hall, arranging the sound system and computer, being part of the quiz team and serving the food. Fr. Mayank was the main organizer of the competition while Fr. Ivan and Bro. Shaun worked behind the scenes with all the arrangements. Our aspirants got a first hand experience of how these programmes are to be organized.

  Kudos to the whole parish community because every one cooperated. One of the parishioners sponsored the meal, a young college girl was the quiz master and our clerk who can almost be considered a parishioner was the score keeper.

 The parish of Khempur emerged victors and the runners up were the children of Balasinor. In the third place were the children of Umreth. The Chief Guest was the new Dean, Fr. Titus D’Costa who appreciated the amount of work that went into conducting the quiz in a novel way, using the projector to project the questions and answers. He congratulated all the participants for getting high scores and giving a close fight to the winners.

The whole programme ended with the serving of tasty food prepared by our five star cooks. It was a wonderful activity that kept each and every one connected with Mother Mary through out the quiz. Such quiz   make church vibrant today. At the end of the quiz the winners were presented gifts.
