More About Bhumel
Bhumel is a historical place between Nadiad and Anand. The first missionary Fr. Manuel Xavier Gomes arrived in Mogri village and then he traveled to Bhumel wherein he stayed and bought a house and from there he visited the villages near by. After sometimes he moved to Gamdi-Anand and established the mission near Railways.

The missionary left Bhumel physically years ago but his Divine presence and FAITH he left has now grown to 60 families around 330 Catholics.

Why I write is the reason that Bhumel is the place where the real Christianity practiced even today. You can view my other articles of Bhumel wherein the active practices are felt and seen. It is not only the activities they do and celebrate festivals but even the people are concerned about the spirituality, financial needs, and growth of women. To fulfill one of these concerns, the writer of the blog himself well thought-out for children committee in year 1994 and there the small children committee began their first ministry by conducting prayers in every house alternatively, and still they continue the same without fail. It was a prayer group of children and was bringing prayer awareness(Jagruti)to family (Parivar) by small Children(Bal) therefore was named Jagruti Bal Parivar and later on it was called and now known as JA.BA.PA.
The Ja.Ba.Pa now has grown in taking responsibilities of liturgy in mass, conducting Sunday school for building faith, arranging prayers for sick and on birthday occasions and giving entertainment programs on festivals to unite every Catholic with the help of present President Shailesh S.Parmar.

There are other organizations like Punit Cross Mandal and Legion Of Mary which are also responsible of Faith for the village. Punit Cross Mandal is a group of young and elders which conducts prayers by singing songs of God with the help of classical music instruments. It is a wonderful prayer where people dance in it out of joy. Similarly Legion Of Mary is a group of men and women, they pray in every house especially for sick people by reading Bible and saying Rosary.
One of the villagers has taken initiative to short out financial and savings problem of Catholics by opening Sadbhavana Bachat Mandal. This helps people to manage their money transactions as some of them are farmers.

There is also a group called Sakhi Mandal. The group is organized by only women for the better panorama and growth of women. They are very active in every offices of church.

The above given slide show there is a prayer photo of the members of JA.BA.PA and to your right you will find the present president of JA.BA.PA Shailesh S.Parmar

Christians marched for peace in Pune

Today every one of us might know that around 3000 Christians marched for peace in bomb-hit Pune along with Catholic and Protestant bishops in a peace rally in Pune on 22nd of this month to condemn the bomb attack that killed 15 people and wounded 56. The Catholic priests and nuns were in processing for condemning terrorism and highlighting the promotion of peace, harmony and the protection for every life. This has been an example that we people of Christ care for every life which is created by God.

Bomb attacks and terrorism fear every human and it creates unsafe life today. Regarding to this I was taking a telephonic interview with a Jesuit priest Fr. Irudyaraj Manickam S.J. (known as Fr.Raj) who is the rector and a Theology professor at Jesuit Theology Centre, Sevasi in Baroda in Gujarat. He said that Pune rally has given a massage that we Christians ask for maintaining peace and love rather than killing lives and creating unsafe world. The rally has given a massage that love and peace bring harmony and protection for every soul. It is the example of unity and love and care for others.

He said that bomb blasts and terrorism does not distinguish between the guilty and the innocent, it has no morality or ethical values. Fr. Raj said that all Catholics should fast and pray for peace and love and also for those who are killed and injured in Pune bomb blast. We must pray for sick and suffering people during this Lent season and especially on Friday in the way of the cross prayer. He said that we Catholics do fast in Lent every year. But that is only for oneself. But by thinking out of the box he has appealed every Catholic to fast to save one time meal to help our needy and hungry brothers and sisters in Lent. He said that if possible every parish must take initiative to offer Sunday mass for those who are killed and injured at German Bakery in Pune.

Fr. Raj S.J. is in the above photo.

The Holy Season Of Lent- Part-1

When we think about Lent is to have fast or abstinence. But there is much more to know about it.

Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is the time to come back to God. It is a season for reflection and taking steps to change ourselves to prepare to welcome for the King Jesus Christ. . Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter.

By observing the forty days of Lent, every Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. Sunday is not counted. Because Sunday is the day on which Christ arose, making it an inappropriate day to fast and mourn our sins. On Sunday we must celebrate Christ's resurrection for our salvation.

Who can fast?

Under canon law of the Church, a day of fast is one on which Catholics who are eighteen to sixty years old are required to keep a limited fast. One may eat a single, normal meal and have two snacks, so long as these snacks do not add up to a second meal. Children are not required to fast, but their parents must ensure they are properly educated in the spiritual practice of fasting. Those with medical conditions requiring a greater or more regular food intake can easily be dispensed from the requirement of fasting by their priests.

Abstinence

The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. Meat is considered to be the flesh and organs of mammals and fowl. Moral theologians have traditionally considered this also to forbid soups or gravies made from them. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and shellfish are permitted, as are animal derived products such as margarine and gelatin which do not have any meat taste.....

Stay tuned, will be back soon with more on Lent in upcoming 40 days.

Fear To Be Understood

Every creature of the world, fears of something. You can imagine many types of fear in our living society. There are many types of fear like some fear of death, some fear of losing near and dear once, other fear of exams etc. Fear takes birth from the day we step into the world. Everyone, from the childhood to the oldest, experiences fear at one time or another. Feeling fear makes us uncomfortable. It always relates to future events, such as worsening of a situation, or continuation of a situation that is unacceptable. Fear could also be an instant reaction. We become negative rather than positive in our way of behaving and way of working. This creates nervousness and worries to some people and they go for drugs and smoking to avoid the all fear and that leads to negative thinking which takes us away from our God and people and makes us lonely.

It is not that Fear makes us negative but having fear about certain things can also be helpful because it makes us behave in a safe way. For example, a child with a fear of fire will avoid playing with it. Facing and dealing with fear can prepare people to handle the unsettling experiences and challenging situations of life. The similar way having fear of God can make us live life in a better way too.

Many times I wonder why I am afraid in life. But after watching “all is well” the dialogue of the Hindi movie 3 idiots, I came to know that it is the fear that makes our heart behave negative or positive. And we are the once who can decide and work upon to over come fear.

Fear can not be avoided but fear can be understood by us and if the same is understood it can have positive solution rather than negative.

44th World Day of Communications – May 16, 2010

"The priest and pastoral ministry in a digital world: new media at
the service of the Word."

The following is the letter of Pope Benedict XVI to the priests and nuns.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The theme of this year's World Communications Day - The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word - is meant to coincide with the Church's celebration of the Year for Priests. It focuses attention on the important and sensitive pastoral area of digital communications, in which priests can discover new possibilities for carrying out their ministry to and for
the Word of God. Church communities have always used the modern media for fostering communication, engagement with society, and, increasingly, for encouraging dialogue at a wider level. Yet the recent, explosive growth and greater social impact of these media make them all the more important for a fruitful priestly ministry.

All priests have as their primary duty the proclamation of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, and the communication of his saving grace in the sacraments. Gathered and called by the Word, the Church is the sign and instrument of the communion that God creates with all people, and every priest is called to build up this communion, in Christ and with Christ. Such is the lofty dignity and beauty of the mission of the priest, which responds in a special way
to the challenge raised by the Apostle Paul: "The Scripture says, 'No one who believes in him will be put to shame ... everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent? (Rom 10:11, 13-15).

Responding adequately to this challenge amid today's cultural shifts, to which young people are especially sensitive, necessarily involves using new communications technologies. The world of digital communication, with its almost limitless expressive capacity, makes us appreciate all the more Saint Paul's exclamation: "Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel" (1 Cor 9:16) The increased availability of the new technologies demands greater responsibility on the part of those called to proclaim the Word, but it also requires them to become more focused, efficient and compelling in their efforts. Priests stand at the threshold of a new era: as new technologies create deeper forms of relationship across greater distances, they are called to respond pastorally by putting the media ever more effectively at the service of the Word.

The spread of multimedia communications and its rich "menu of options" might make us think it sufficient simply to be present on the Web, or to see it only as a space to be filled. Yet priests can rightly be expected to be present in the world of digital communications as faithful witnesses to the Gospel, exercising their proper role as leaders of communities which increasingly express themselves with the different "voices" provided by the digital marketplace. Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites) which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis.

Using new communication technologies, priests can introduce people to the life of the Church and help our contemporaries to discover the face of Christ. They will best achieve this aim if they learn, from the time of their formation, how to use these technologies in a competent and appropriate way, shaped by sound theological insights and reflecting a strong priestly spirituality grounded in constant dialogue with the Lord. Yet priests present in the world of digital communications should be less notable for their media savvy than for their priestly heart, their closeness to Christ. This will not only enliven their pastoral outreach, but also will give a "soul" to the fabric of communications that makes up the "Web".

God's loving care for all people in Christ must be expressed in the digital world not simply as an artifact from the past, or a learned theory, but as something concrete, present and engaging. Our pastoral presence in that world must thus serve to show our contemporaries, especially the many people in our day who experience uncertainty and confusion, "that God is near; that in Christ we all belong to one another" (Benedict XVI, Address to the Roman Curia, 21 December 2009).

Who better than a priest, as a man of God, can develop and put into practice, by his competence in current digital technology, a pastoral outreach capable of making God concretely present in today's world and presenting the religious wisdom of the past as a treasure which can inspire our efforts to live in the present with dignity while building a better future? Consecrated men and women working in the media have a special responsibility for opening the door to new forms of encounter, maintaining the quality of human interaction, and showing concern for individuals and their genuine spiritual needs. They can thus help the men and women of our digital age to sense the Lord's presence, to grow in expectation and hope, and to draw near to the Word of God which offers salvation and fosters an integral human development. In this way the Word can traverse the many crossroads created by the intersection of all the different "highways" that form "cyberspace", and show that God has his rightful place in every age, including our own. Thanks to the new communications media, the Lord can walk the streets of our cities and, stopping before the threshold of our homes and our hearts, say once more: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me" (Rev 3:20).

In my Message last year, I encouraged leaders in the world of communications to promote a culture of respect for the dignity and value of the human person. This is one of the ways in which the Church is called to exercise a "diaconia of culture" on today's "digital continent". With the Gospels in our hands and in our hearts, we must reaffirm the need to continue preparing ways that lead to the Word of God, while being at the same time constantly attentive to those who continue to seek; indeed, we should encourage their seeking as a first step of evangelization. A pastoral presence in the world of digital communications, precisely because it brings us into contact with the followers of other religions, non-believers and people of every culture, requires sensitivity to those who do not believe, the disheartened and those who have a deep, unarticulated desire for enduring truth and the absolute. Just as the prophet Isaiah envisioned a house of prayer for all peoples (cf. Is 56:7), can we not see the web as also offering a space - like the "Court of the Gentiles" of the Temple of Jerusalem - for those who have not yet come to know God?

The development of the new technologies and the larger digital world represents a great resource for humanity as a whole and for every individual, and it can act as a stimulus to encounter and dialogue. But this development likewise represents a great opportunity for believers. No door can or should be closed to those who, in the name of the risen Christ, are committed to drawing near to others. To priests in particular the new media offer ever new and far-reaching pastoral possibilities, encouraging them to embody the universality of the Church's mission, to build a vast and real fellowship, and to testify in today's world to the new life which comes from hearing the Gospel of Jesus, the eternal Son who came among us for our salvation. At the same time, priests must always bear in mind that the ultimate fruitfulness of their ministry comes from Christ himself, encountered and listened to in prayer; proclaimed in preaching and lived witness; and known, loved and celebrated in the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist and Reconciliation.

To my dear brother priests, then, I renew the invitation to make astute use of the unique possibilities offered by modern communications. May the Lord make all of you enthusiastic heralds of the Gospel in the new "agorà" which the current media are opening up.

With this confidence, I invoke upon you the protection of the Mother of God and of the Holy Curè of Ars and, with affection, I impart to each of you my Apostolic Blessing.

From the Vatican, 24 January 2010, Feast of Saint Francis de Sales.

The Lost Bird.

Are we aware of nature and its creatures? We are so busy, even we are not worried about the nature. The nature itself is leaving us. we are sprawling many beautiful creatures of the world which are created by God. One of them
is Chakli(house sparrow).

This is the bird Chakli (house sparrow).By looking at the Chakli it reminds us a lot many stories of it like the famous “Chaklo ane Chakli ni vaarta”. The bird which used stay with human being, the bird which used to wake up us by its “chi chi chi” is now rarely found. The vibrant sound “chi chi chi” is now no more found in our life.

The Chakli story was before said by grandfather and grandmother in our family. It was used to make children happy. The same lost Chakli today makes us realize that we are sprawling the nature.

Save nature save earth.

Did you know, India Is Online

Government of India has developed an 'Online Grievance Forum' @ http://pgportal.gov.in/. Can you imagine this is happening in INDIA?

The govt. wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc.
Many of us say that these things don't work in India.

Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal Corporation laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2 weeks later, BSNL dug up the newly laid roads to install new cables which annoyed all the residents. A resident used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern. To his surprise, BSNL and Municipal Corporation of Faridabad were served a show cause notice and the guy received a copy of the notice in one week. Government has asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as it's clear that both the government departments were not in sync at all.

So use this grievance forum and educate others who don't know about this facility. This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the 'System' in India.
Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings.

Know Where You Go

This is the story of a fisherman, tells a lot to think about where we are going in life.

A boat docked in a tiny Goan village. A tourist from Mumbai complimented the Goan fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. 'Not very long,' answered the fisherman. 'But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?' asked the Mumbaite.

The Goan fisherman explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family. The Mumbaite asked, 'But what do you do with the rest of your time?' 'I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a Siesta . In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, play guitar, sing a few songs... I have a full life.'

The Mumbaite interrupted, 'I have an MBA from IIM-A, and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell The extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a Bigger boat.'

'And after that?' asked the Goan. 'With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a Second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Panjim, or even Mumbai. From there you can direct your huge new enterprise.'

'How long would that take?' asked the Goan. 'Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years,' replied the Mumbaite. 'And after that?' 'Afterwards? Well my Friend, That's when it gets really interesting,'
chuckled the Mumbaite, 'When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!'

'Millions? Really? And after that?' asked the Goan. 'After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta and spend your evenings doing what you like with your buddies.'

'With all due respect sir, but that's exactly what I am doing now. So what's the point wasting 25 years?' asked the Goan.

And the moral of the story is? Know where you're going in life. You may already be there. Life in the present world is indeed a rat race. Many who have qualifications from reputed universities too do not know where they are going in life.

Give it serious thought.

Misunderstanding

The goal of writing about misunderstanding is to make you aware of things that we are doing in our day to day life that might be pushing our friends, spouse, and children and God further and further away from us.

There are various reasons like Social conflicts often involve some misunderstanding. Normal interaction may involve faulty communication. When two people are in misunderstanding or conflict; they often make negative assumptions about others. There is one more reason of misunderstanding. With our busy lives, we sometimes get so caught up with the kids, jobs or other activities that we don't spend enough quality time with our friends and family. If you are not sure what quality time means to your family or friends, need to be clarified with them. For some it may be sitting together watching movies, for others this may require eliminating outside distractions like TV's or other media. If the above said reasons are not served, they are going to create misunderstanding. These are the few reasons lead to misunderstanding and conflicts to make us lesser human.

If you look closely at the biggest issues in your friendship or marriage life right now.Misunderstanding and conflicts become a chain of anger which never breaks. For example, you had misunderstanding with your Boss, and boss gets angry with you. Since he is Boss you can not shout at him but the same you do it at the people who are in lower position than yours. And the same chain again starts by the people whom you have shouted at and they continue the same to people of their lower positions. The chain of misunderstanding and anger never breaks and it travels through human society. The chain never breaks but it breaks the relationship with your family and friends and God.

To avoid misunderstanding and conflicts one need to take initiative to clarify it in friendly manner. In order to stay connected with our God and family and friends let us break the chain.

Can’t we avoid or clarify the misunderstanding?

The Society Of St. Vincent The Paul

The Society Of St. Vincent the Paul is active all over the world. It is well known for helping poor and needy our christian fellow brothers and sisters.

The members of the Society take an oath to help and visit two poor and needy families once in a week. The Society also works in Kheda district. One of the members of the Society is Jaswantbhai L Macwan from Umreth. He is a teacher in St. Mary's school, Nadiad. Having zeal to serve people he spends time for them after his school hours and on Sundays.Through the society he does help poor and needy but being a teacher he also brings the awareness of education to our christian youth.

Discussing with Jaswantbhai L Macwan on telephonic interview he said that over the years the Society in India and in Gujarat has grown at a good and steady pace. Their membership in Gujarat has increased to around 158 and they have two conferences spread in Ahemadabad and kheda. In remote areas like Vata gaam near Nagara , khambhat,Matar and kheda villages that are unmarked even in maps are covered by them. he also said that their activities too have been diversified. From an organisation they focused on charity and meeting immediate needs, they do attend to immediate and short term needs, their focus today is on long term need; they plan and execute projects that would make their beneficiaries self reliant. Mother Mary and John Paul II

We don't know why John Paul II wanted to hide this picture for years. The Vatican published this picture for first time. This picture was taken by one of his security guards just when the Pope was attacked and was falling down in his Papamobil. You can see the pain in his face.
Take a look at the above picture. You can see Mother Mary holding John Paul II in Her arms when he was shot in 1981.
This happened on May 13, 1981 . Pope John Paul II was shot as he arrived in St. Peter’s Square to speak to the people who had gathered there. When he was shot, he was holding the rosary, which he always carried. When he fell to the ground, out of nowhere, a woman rushed to his side and embraced him. That picture is shown above. The picture is said to have been taken by one of the gathered people who was busy taking Pope’s picture with his camera. The woman vanished as quickly as she appeared..
The gunman was apprehended in the square and sentenced to life in prison. The pope was critically wounded but survived after surgery and a long recovery. The surprising fact is that all the bullets passed just past his vital internal organs. When he recovered finally, the first thing Pope asked for was his rosary. When he got it in his hands, he said that he felt Mother Mary directing the bullets path through him. Sure, John Paul II was always in the habit of praying the rosary regularly. He had once said, “The best prayer I like is the Rosary”
Joaquin Navarro Valls, who is the one spokesman from The Vatican, said that they made a lot of studies for years of this incredible picture and of course about the quality of the developing of the picture because when it was developed nobody could see very well because the image was not clear. Finally, and after so many controls and being looking and checking by all the experts in photography(around the world), they decided that there were no tricks in it and today they give us this beautiful gift from our Mother of God. You can see the Mother of God holding John Paul II in her arms. Beautiful right?

Religious tribal fair in Zankhvav

In Gujarat there are many places where people celebrate Medo (fair). One of them is Zankhvav in South Gujarat.

Yesterday the Christian tribals of South Gujarat gathered to thank Mother Mary for all grace towards them. People around 1500 gathered to celebrate the beautiful thanks giving fair. The spectacular event of the fair is that everyone comes with a coconut and offers it to Mother Mary as the symbol of thanksgiving. The parish priest of Zankhvav Church also organized grand mass celebration wherein all Christian tribals participated in it with faith towards church. The Zankhvav fair is the example of Christian unity and sharing of joy and love.

This is an awe-inspiring religious tribal fair which is every year celebrated on 2nd February the feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple.

Relic of venerable Fr.Agnel-1

Venerable Fr. Agnel was born 21st Jan 1869 at Anjuna in Goa. He was very holy person. He wanted to serve people of God. Having desire to become a priest he joined The Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier Pilar on 17th July 1887 in Goa, India. He was ordained on 24th September 1898.He began his ministry soon after his ordination. He almost spent his life in serving people especially sick and orphans and ill treated people. People liked his holiness and kindness. He was so holy that he was given responsibility of Spiritual Father for the missionaries and for the people.Fr. Agnel was also a good preacher. People flocked to listen to him whenever he celebrated mass. One day he was preaching suddenly he had severe pain in throat and could not speak. And the very next day he left the world for eternal peace on 20th November1927. He was so holy that people began to pray to God through him. There were many miracles worked by praying through him like a son was suffering from kidney his father Crystel D’melo from Mumbai, asked Fr.Agnel to take his request to God and it was fulfilled. Elisa D’costa from Panjim Goa whose girl was suffering from stone was cured when she prayed through Fr. Agnel.

There are many miracles worked through him and therefore he was given the place of venerable in church. The procedure of announcing him as saint is in process in Roam.

There are many places in India like Goa, and Bandra in Mumbai where his relic is given. One of them is Vadtal in Gujarat. Today also people all over Gujarat flock to visit and pray at the relic of venerable Fr.Agnel in Vadtal in Gujarat. The important is not only Christians visit him but even the nochristians visit and pray to God. Prayers and petitions are offered in Mass every Sunday and throughout the week. Two special Novenas are also conducted for the Beatification at Vadtal.

Let us be proud of venerable Fr.Agnel and pray to God that venerable Fr.Agnel soon be announced as Saint of India.
