ICPA team interacts with religious, media people at Vijayawada meet.An orientation and training programme to the priests and media persons was held in the Social Service Centre in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on April 16 in connection with the celebration of the Jubilee Year of the Priests and the World Communication Day, 2010.
Seventy participants, most of them young priests and nuns participated in the programme conducted by the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA) in collaboration with the Media Communication Commission of the local diocese under the direction of Fr. Muvala Prasad.Fr. Muvala Prasad heads the Social Service Centre.
a campus located metres away from the famed shrine of Our Lady at Gunatala.Delegates of twelve dioceses, the Director and the staff of Amruthavani media centre of Hyderabad also participated in the programme.
Bishop Mallavarapu Prakash who presided over the inaugural session lauded the efforts taken by the Church to disseminate media culture among the Church personnel.Quoting the Holy Father’s message to the World Day of Communication, the prelate said that there are vast and new possibilities for carrying out the priestly ministry in the digital world of communication.
Amruthavani Director, Fr. David Raju shared his views on the World Day of Communications and how it could be celebrated in India year after year.
ICPA secretary F A Nathan briefed the gathering on the goals and work of the ICPA.
In her vote of thanks, Sr. Benigna, the sole woman representative in the executive body of the ICPA expressed her happiness at the good response of the local priests and of the immense support provided by Fr. Muvala Prasad.
Several youth from Prerana Youth Centre along with Fr. Bosco, the diocesan youth director were present.Some nuns of the Nirmala Niketan, St. Ann’s of Luzern, St. Ann’s of Madhavaram and of St.Aloysius also participated in the seminar.
Chennai born Vice-President of the ICPA, Vincent D’ Souza made a presentation on the New Media tools available to people and how members of the church could use them.He demonstrated how a cell phone could be used to save a soul in despair or share information on church services, how priests could create and run their own blogs and how parishes must have web sites which are updated all the time.
Plans were floated to form a local body of people who practise different forms of writing was formed
