‘’Samelan’’ for widows by Dominican Sisters - Balasinor

A Ray of Hope

Women in our society are treated as second class citizens and if she is a widow she has no identity or dignity as such. She is treated, most of the time, as an object.

26th July was indeed a great day in the history of Matru Chhaya, Balasinor, where Dominican Sisters organized one day ‘’Samelan’’ for widows. 160 widows from 20 villages of Balasinor Taluka, gathered in the campus of Matru Chhaya. The number itself communicated that they wish to have their identity and dignity.

Ms Kripaben Patel was the Chief Guest, an Executive Manager in Jewelry Designing. Ms Kripaben spoke to the widows about the sanitation and how to keep their own surrounding clean. Ms Manasiben was the guest of Honour. She encouraged the young and middle aged widow to maintain their dignity by living a moral life.

Mamlatdar of Balasinor Shri Hirabhai Vanker spoke to all widows about the government schemes and how to avail them. Adv. Sr. Manjula Tuscano spoke to them about their human and fundamental rights and motivated them to get united so that they can fight all together for their own rights.

In the afternoon, the post lunch session medical camp was conducted for them. Dr. Bharat as well as nurses from government hospital helped the sisters to have this camp. In this camp they were given information about different disease and how to take precaution. They even talked about different medical benefits they can avail to different schemes.

Dominican Sisters have begun a movement for widows since last year. Here the widows get the opportunity to come on one platform and unitedly fight for their own rights and dignity.

At the end of the ‘Samelan’ Adv. Manjula Tuscano thanked all the dignitaries on the dais. She thanked all the women who participated in the ‘Samelan’. Sr. Manjula expressed her gratitude to all those who helped her during this ‘Samelan’. She thanked the Dominican sisters for their constant support.
